A Tradition of Excellence in Custom-Made Costuming

Bill Hargate Costumes was established in 1985 by award-winning costume designer Bill Hargate (known for his work on Broadway’s Peter Pan with Sandy Duncan and his Television work on Murphy Brown, My Sister Sam and Ink). Upon his passing in 2003, the company was headed by Bill’s manufacturing foreperson, Mary Ellen Fields. Under her leadership the company applied its expertise to thousands of films, television programs, commercials, stage shows, parades and even animal costumes, before passing the baton to Emmy-nominated Rory Cunningham in 2018. Rory has continued the company’s tradition of the highest quality fit and workmanship, delivered on time, and on – or below - budget, for hundreds of projects in all media categories.

Rory has used his decades of hands-on experience, acquired working at such leading costume houses as Bob Mackie’s Elizabeth Courtney, the Universal costume shop headed by the esteemed shop foreman John Hayles, and, of course, Bill Hargate Costumes, to expand the range of projects and construction methodologies required to deliver stand-out costumes that realize the vision of the designer and support the intentions of the story line.

Rory directs a highly skilled and committed team of drapers, pattern makers and stitchers, who construct each costume with attention to detail and quality.

Along with custom-made expertise, Bill Hargate Costumes offers office and prep space that can be rented out for small and mid-sized productions with fitting room space and a large area for aging/dyeing and laundry.

Bill Hargate Costumes is located at 1052 North Cahuenga Boulevard, in the heart of the Hollywood Industrial District, minutes away from major and independent studios, and with easy freeway access to sound stages and production facilities in the San Fernando Valley and points north.

We look forward to discussing the costume needs of your next production with you!
